Quasicrystal
Solids were conventionally classified into two categories, “crystal” in which atoms align regularly, and “amorphous” where atoms assemble irregularly. In 1984, however, discovery of the third form of solid, “quasicrystal”, has opened a new frontier of materials science. In Department of Physics, we are looking for new phenomena hidden in quasicrystals such as novel quantum criticality.
