Autophagy in Budding Yeast
Budding yeast, which is indispensable for making wine or bread, is an eukaryote just like us human beings, and is used as a model organism in research. When yeast cells face nutrient starvation, they undergo autophagy and recycle resources. The moving black particles are autophagic bodies including cellular contents to be degraded and recycled.
